What Do Dad’s Want for Father’s Day?
The day is approaching us, and while we as moms know our day has past we want to do our best to make this day special for him too, and don’t lie, you want to show off your gift skills a bit! My husband is amazing and we are so fortunate for all he does, and I can never wrap my head around any one gift that really shows how much. While we as moms might be the glue, I always see him as my rock. So this year for Father’s Day I really want to make him special, here are my ideas for how to spend Father’s Day:
1. Don’t just focus on the gift, try to make the day an experience for him. Whether that means a family day or a day he has alone. Or both!
2. Why not treat him to a quick massage? Or chiropractor, and don’t leave out a mani pedi. We all know how relaxing those are and it might just help put him in a good mood to start the day off.
3. My husband’s best friend just became a dad this year, so we are planning a surprise picnic with his bff and his family! Why not plan to share the day with a friend? Sometimes even a small bbq makes it a celebration.
4. Going to a game! Although my dad and my husband don’t like the same teams, they still enjoy baseball. Many years ago that was our tradition. We would go along with my brother and my dad to a baseball game. I’m hoping when all the little are old enough we can keep that going. And it doesn’t have to be major league, check for local games too!
5. Fishing, ok I know that may not sound good exciting but wait! There are fish farms that guarantee you’ll catch a fish. What’s more fun than having your husband open up a gift to have him guess the adventure…maybe fill a tackle box with his favorite candy and then when you go he can spend some one on one time with the kids and usually there are spots to picnic afterwards! This can be a hike as well if you’re not into fishing. Bay Area has so many amazing hikes that can be modest or advanced. Makes his gift a s’mores kit or a new shirt from Patagonia…you can make the adventure your theme for your gift.
6. Brewery, now I’m sure you’ve tried, but if not you’ve gotta check some of these out! So many more local breweries are around and they are very family friendly. Lots of food trucks and usually all outside so you can relax and enjoy while the kids run around!
7. Make your gifts from the heart- you don’t need expensive presents, I think most dads are like us and just want to be thought of. Sometimes customized gifts can be pricy, so unless it will be something he treasures don’t go too overboard. For my dad we are having a cutting board customized with my kids hands and handwriting. It’s not cheap, but he really enjoys cooking and this is something he will use and see all the time (hopefully!). But I’ve also made mugs from Costco, and added photos of the family. They’re usually inexpensive and fun to look at.
8. Lastly, we have always enjoyed making our gifts. Try making stepping stones with your kids handprints and decorate with mini stones. You also can never go wrong with a hand made card!
Whatever you choose just try to remember the day is to show we love them and appreciate all they do. Even if they don’t like gifts a yummy treat and card are always appreciated! But if you can spend the day together a bbq or picnic can always be a fun day too!
Happy Father’s Day Dads!
